Thermal Oxidation (TO)

Operating principle of the process-integrated thermal oxidizer: 

In many thermal processes, exhaust air streams are generated that are contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In thermal oxidation, this contaminated process gas is heated to approximately 800 °C, reliably oxidizing organic pollutants. The result is purified exhaust air that complies with all applicable statutory emission limits. 

ELPO’s process-integrated thermal oxidizer utilizes the generated thermal energy multiple times: Highly efficient heat exchangers return the recovered energy both to the thermal process and, in a recuperative manner, back into the thermal oxidizer itself. With a customized, process-integrated thermal oxidizer, it is therefore possible to achieve an overall efficiency of over 100 %. 

Compact design – maximum space efficiency: 

ELPO offers two design concepts for integrating a thermal oxidizer (TO) into thermal processing systems – both for new installations and for retrofitting existing plants: 

  • Container TO
  • Mini TO

The Container TO is designed as a centralized solution and purifies the exhaust air from multiple drying zones of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The Mini TO is particularly space-efficient and requires no additional footprint. Individual drying zones are equipped directly with their own integrated thermal oxidizer – efficient, space-saving, and service-friendly.

Energy efficiency and heat recovery: 

Although the process gas must be heated to approximately 800 °C for purification, a process-integrated thermal oxidizer significantly increases the overall efficiency of the entire system. This is made possible by a state-of-the-art heat recovery system that returns the thermal energy of the purified exhaust air to the process and to the thermal oxidizer itself with minimal losses. Only through effective exhaust air purification does this comprehensive heat recovery become technically feasible.
